Effective date: July 15, 2025
Wordtris ("the app") is a word puzzle game developed by Ondrej Kofron ("we", "us", "our"). This policy explains what data the app collects, how it is used, and who it is shared with.
The short version: We do not collect your name, email, or any personal contact information. The app has no accounts, no login, and no server of our own. Third-party services integrated into the app (Firebase, AdMob, Game Center, Google Play Games) may collect certain data as described below.
1. Data We Collect Directly
We do not collect any personally identifiable information. All game data (settings, statistics, progress) is stored locally on your device and is not transmitted to any server operated by us.
Local data stored on your device includes:
- Game settings (language, sound preferences, ad removal status)
- Gameplay statistics (high score, games played, words found, etc.)
- Achievement unlock status
- In-progress game state (for pause/resume)
This data never leaves your device except through the cloud sync services described in Section 4.
2. Firebase (Google)
The app uses Firebase, a platform provided by Google, for analytics and crash reporting. Firebase data collection is disabled in debug builds and only active in published release versions of the app.
2a. Firebase Analytics
We use Firebase Analytics to understand how the game is played and to improve the experience. Analytics collects:
- Gameplay events: game start, game over (with score, words found, elapsed time, dictionary language), and new high score
- Screen views (which screens are visited)
- App-level properties: selected dictionary language and whether ads have been removed
- Standard device information automatically collected by the Firebase SDK (device model, operating system version, app version, country/region derived from IP address)
Firebase Analytics does not collect your name, email, phone number, or any personally identifiable information. Analytics data is aggregated and cannot be used to identify individual users. Data is retained according to Google's Firebase data retention policies.
2b. Firebase Crashlytics
We use Firebase Crashlytics to detect and fix app crashes and errors. When a crash or error occurs, Crashlytics automatically collects:
- Crash stack traces and error messages
- Device model, operating system version, and app version
- A Crashlytics installation UUID (not linked to your identity)
Crash reports do not contain any personal information, gameplay data, or content you have entered.
3. Advertising (Google AdMob)
The app displays banner and interstitial advertisements provided by Google AdMob. To serve ads, the AdMob SDK may collect:
- Advertising identifier (IDFA on iOS, Advertising ID on Android)
- Device and network information (device model, OS version, IP address)
- Ad interaction data (impressions, clicks)
On first launch, the app presents a consent dialog (via Google's User Messaging Platform) to comply with GDPR and other privacy regulations. You may choose whether to allow personalized advertising. If you decline, ads are served in a non-personalized manner with limited data collection.
Removing ads: The app offers an in-app purchase to permanently remove all advertisements. When ads are removed, the AdMob SDK is not initialized and no advertising data is collected.
For details on how Google handles ad data, see the Google Privacy Policy.
4. Game Center, Google Play Games & Cloud Sync
4a. Apple Game Center (iOS)
On iOS, the app integrates with Apple Game Center for leaderboards and achievements. When you are signed into Game Center:
- Your high score is submitted to the Game Center leaderboard
- Achievement unlocks are reported to Game Center
- Your Game Center player ID is used to identify your entries (managed by Apple, not collected by us)
Game Center data is managed entirely by Apple under the Apple Privacy Policy. You can disable Game Center integration in the app's settings.
4b. Google Play Games (Android)
On Android, the app integrates with Google Play Games Services for leaderboards and achievements. The same types of data are shared (scores, achievements) and are managed by Google under the Google Privacy Policy. You can disable Play Games integration in the app's settings.
4c. Cloud save (progress sync)
If you are signed into Game Center (iOS) or Google Play Games (Android), the app syncs your gameplay statistics to the cloud so your progress carries over between devices. The synced data includes:
| Data | Description |
|---|---|
| High score | Your all-time best score |
| Games played | Total number of games completed |
| Total words found | Lifetime word count |
| Longest word | The longest word you have ever formed |
| Best chain / combo | Your best cascade chain and word combo |
| Special pieces used | Lifetime bombs and wildcards used |
| Dictionaries played | Which language dictionaries you have used |
On iOS, this data is stored in your personal iCloud account via Game Center Saved Games. On Android, it is stored via Google Play Games Saved Games. In both cases, the data resides in your own cloud account and is not stored on any server operated by us.
You can disable cloud sync by disabling Game Center or Play Games in the app's settings. Your local progress is not affected.
5. In-App Purchases
The app offers a single non-consumable in-app purchase to remove advertisements. All purchase transactions are processed entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We do not receive, store, or have access to any payment information (credit card numbers, billing addresses, etc.). Purchase status is stored locally on your device.
6. Data We Do Not Collect
To be explicit, the app does not:
- Require or offer account creation or login
- Collect your name, email address, phone number, or physical address
- Access your contacts, photos, camera, microphone, or location
- Use any custom backend server or database
- Sell, rent, or share data with any party beyond the third-party services described above
- Track you across other apps or websites
7. Children's Privacy
The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since the app collects no personal information from any user, no special data handling for children applies.
8. Data Retention and Deletion
Local game data can be deleted at any time by uninstalling the app or clearing its data in your device settings. Cloud-synced progress can be removed through your iCloud or Google account settings. Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics data is retained according to Google's standard retention policies and cannot be individually deleted, as it is not linked to any personal identifier.
9. Third-Party Service Links
For reference, here are the privacy policies of the third-party services used by the app:
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
11. Contact
